Any time the temperature dips below a certain degree, my whole personality begins to change. Rather than daydreaming about barbecues and beach days, I suddenly feel the urge to grab a fluffy blanket, drink something warm, and watch a Halloween movie. And then, of course, comes the fall shopping.
While I highly doubt I'll be getting much use out of jeans this season, there is one essential that I know I can wear from anywhere, even the couch: cozy, comfy, cute sweaters. My Etsy cart is slowly filling up with fabulous vintage finds, and I recently noticed that many of the options I'm digging all include a ruffled collar.

In many ways, this look goes along with my love of clown-like pieces — polka-dot prints, balloon sleeves, lots of vibrant colors, etc. — and after looking at photos of actual clown costumes, I realized my new obsession is literally a Clown Sweater. It's the same collar and everything.

If this newfound love of Clown Sweaters sounds a little random, I understand. But in reality, it likely subconsciously stems from a trend that I've noticed on runways and fashion influencers. Ruffled-top sweaters have slowly been creeping up on us, and Celine even included them in its Fall 2020 collection.

Clown Sweaters also tie into another emerging look that I love, the oversized collar. Earlier this year, pilgrim collars were suddenly popping up everywhere — mostly thanks to Ganni, which included them in many designs. However, with the help of a removable, frilly, or even lace option, almost any old knit can transform into a piece that's a bit more whimsical and circus-approved.

Aside from hitting up Esty for these vintage, ruffled finds, there are also similar, more modern sweaters you can shop ahead of the cooler weather. Ahead, I've compiled a few Clown Sweaters — some more subtle than others — along with a seasonless Blanket Dress, all of which feature the same eye-catching detail.
